In the hierarchy of white teas, Gong Mei ranks above Shou Mei in quality. The word “Gong” (贡) means “tribute,” referring to teas that, in ancient China, were reserved exclusively for imperial tribute. This heritage signifies not only higher quality but also a refined selection process—characterized by plump buds, tender young leaves, and a more delicate flavor profile compared to regular Shou Mei.
